How Does Hypnosis & Coaching work?

Perfect Balance

Hypnosis is a focused and relaxed state of concentration.

It is:

  • A deep state of relaxation and not sleep, akin to meditation where brain wave activity changes. This enables the subconscious part of the mind to become receptive to heightened suggestion.
  • A process that reduces the critical analytical interference of the conscious mind and allows access to the subconscious mind to install positive suggestions.
  • Self-hypnosis – a state of trance which mostly everyone goes in and out of every day (day dream), we experience hypnosis every day and can be unaware we are in a trance state i.e. driving the car, absorbed in a TV programme.
  • At a deeper level it is the period of time just before we fall asleep at night. This is known as the dream state or alpha state.
  • A therapy where you are ultimately in full control while in the relaxed state.  There is a part of the mind that is the observer self, the part of you that is always aware thus keeping you safe, even as you sleep. The observer self during hypnosis is protecting you.
  • Hypnosis and your therapist will not make you do anything against your will.
  • The therapist acts as a facilitator whose job it is to help you become hypnotised and assist change.
  • Hypnosis is a process that centres on the now and the future
  • Hypnosis works well in combination with medical treatments by supporting a person to cope with conditions such as diabetes, IBS, arthritis.

A survey of psychotherapy literature revealed the following recovery rates:

  • Psychoanalysis: 38% recovery after 600 sessions.
  • Behavioural Therapy: 72% recovery after 22 sessions.
  • Hypnotherapy : 93% recovery after just 6 sessions

Coaching is a solution-focused process which enhances your life experience and performance as determined by you, and fosters self directed learning and personal growth.

The Coach guides you towards identifying your own personal potential, clarifying objectives and seeing the future clearly in a way that is undistorted by people, emotions or events.

The process is about increasing awareness and helping you overcome obstacles, real and perceived, to help you move forward towards your chosen goal.

The two key principles of coaching are awareness and responsibility. It brings about proactive, focused thought, attention and observation. It inspires and empowers you to take action to do the things you say you want to do.
